Tweet-up lunch - Kampong Glam - Derwish - Middle Eastern food

If you have been reading my blog, you will know I met a lot of my friends via Twitter and blogging. And there are a lot more ladies we communicate with on Twitter but haven't met yet. The other week, we decided to do a girly lunch in Kampong Glam (the ladies were kind enough to come close to my office so I could join in, difficult otherwise on a week day). We finally met Naomi who was actually curating the @hellofrmsg account at the same time! As we were in Kampong Glam, we naturally gravitated towards middle eastern food and ended up at the Turkish restaurant called Derwish on Bussorah street.

We sat inside (hot here in Singapore!) and inside the restaurant is super pretty. We decided to just order different mezze veggie dishes and breads and share. And I wanted falafal so a portion of that too!

All sorts of yummy vegetarian dishes, baba ganoush, hummus, coleslaw kind of things, aubergine and tomatoes, etc. And a nice spicy chilli and tomato thing!

We got out mezze platters with breads, the Turkish type. These are lavaash right?

Look how high this bread serving was! To be fair, whilst fun, I would prefer a bit of a denser bread - this one is light and dry-ish. I love the more chewy breads. But this one is good for a light lunch, with the various dips.

View of the full table the 7 of us sat around.

Finished with a Turkish coffee which, unlike G, I am actually not a huge fan of. I forgot this temporarily but remembered soon after starting drinking the coffee. I find it a bit like drinking dirt! An acquired taste, one I know many have, but just not for me. Gorgeous coffee cup though. One of the group was very tempted to "borrow" one or try to buy one off the owners. :)

Some shots of the restaurant itself. It is very pretty. This is the tapestry in the table:

All in all a lovely lunch with 6 other lovely ladies, to be repeated hopefully soon.
